FARM WORKERS.
WAGE SCALE TRENDS. WELLINGTON, July 11. While in sympathy with the desire of the Government to improve conditions and wages of farm workers, the Dominion conference of tlgj New Zealand Farmers’ Union in Wellington yetserday urged that those wages must be based on the ability of the industry to support them. The remit on the subject carried further stated: “We., draw tlie attention of the Government to the effect of the rates of pay on public works and unemployment relief works, which tend to fix a minimum wage at which farm labour can bo obtained; but in the fixing of these rates no account has been taken of this fact.”
A further remit adopted asked the Government to investigate the position regarding the supply of agricultural labour available in New Zealand.
