SUCCESS FOR WANGANUI. WANGANUI, July 13. Faster during the first spell than the • second, the Wanganui-Feilding represontativc game, which was played as j a curtain-raiser to the women’s fix- j ture, resulted in a win for Wanganui Irv 6 goals to 3. The half-time scoro was 4 to 2 in favour of the home side. Wanganui goals came from L. Stewart (31, D. Howatson (2), and P. Wallace. Feilding goals were netted by A. Packer (2), and S. Hocken. Play opened with Feild.lg attacking, but an infringement took place. Feilding attacked strongly, and bad several attempts at goaling, but the ball went wide each time. A. Funston was injured and Ins place on the left wing was taken by It. Burgess.
Play centred in Feilding territory for a time and Howatson made one or two attempts at goal, but was unable to penetrate. Good defensive work by Feilding saved several dangerous sitna- | tiuns. Wanganui’s first goal was secur- • ed by Howatson, who received from Burley near the Feilding circle and, j taking the ball in on bis stick, netted I a good goal. Wanganui 1 : Feilding 0. ; From the bully, Feilding took the' ball up their left wing, but Taylor I received and sent it back to Windle on the right wing, who centred to Stewart. sulted until Howatson, during a Wanganui attack, placed the ball very nicely for Stewart to take in and score. Wanganui 3; Feilding 1. The visitors attacked with Grinrod and Hocken prominent, but good play by the Wanganui backs prevented the situation from becoming dangerous. Wanganui attacked and from a twenty-five, Wallace took the ball right through and netted. "YY anganui 4, Feilding 1. Feilding attacked, but several infringements took place. Sticks b.y Hammond gave the visitors their first penalty corner. A hot shot by the Feilding left wing was neatly saved by Connett. Feilding again attacked aiid W. Hocken sent in a high shot. Connett, in saving, was knocked out, but soon recovered. A few minutes later A. After the change-over, Wa.nganui attacked on the right wing. Stewart centred within the circle, but the ball hit a Feilding player and was deflected into the net, much to the amusement of the crowd. Wanganui o, Feilding 2. _ With Hocken prominent, Feilding attacked and an infringement eased the situation for Wanganui.
