JUNIOR GRADE.
OLD BOYS BEAT KIA TOA
The junior curtain-raiser on the oval was played between Old Boys, leaders in the competition, and Kia Ton. The blues fielded only 13 men and put up a fine fight in the firstspell, keeping the score down to an B—o8 —0 margin in favour of Old Boys. Their defence slackened in the second spell and the blacks added 16 more points, running out winners by 24 points to nil. Old Boys opened their scoring account with a fine back movement, in itinted by Egdcll, at half, ball passing through the backs to Carson, who cut in beautifully and transferred to Gardiner, who ran round and scored between the posts. Henson’s kick never left the ground. A few moments later Stuckey attempted to kick a penalty goal from in front of the uprights, but the hall went wide. From a scrum near the goal-line the ball went out to Cutler, who forced his way across. Stuckey converted with a fine kick. Half-time sounded with no further sc-orc. On resuming, Old Boys went through and Shand transferred to Morgan, who touched down, Stuckey added the extra points. Old Boys were quickly into their stride again and a good run by Carson ended in Waters, who followed up well, taking a difficult, pass and scoring. McPherson was next to score from ail opening by Carson, Stuckey again finding the uprights. Gardiner galloped across near the corner for another try, Stuckey just failing with the kick from a difficult angle. Time sounded with the score: Old Bovs 24, Kia Toa 0. Mr G. Duthio was the referee. HIGH SCHOOL v. UNITED.
Palmerston North High School boat United by 11 points to 0. The halttime score was 3 —o ,in favour of School, Robbie staging a spectacular rui. from half-way and scoring. In the second half Sutton and Carter scored, Beard converting the former’s try. FEILDING 0.8. v. MASSEY COLLEGE. Feilding 0.8. ran out victors after a very good open game, throwing the ball about in good open style. There was never any doubt which was the better team, (lie combination between the backs and the forwards being the main feature of the Feilding 0.8. win. Scorers were: Feilding 0.8., Crump (3), Pyne and Mullins, whilst Carter converted two tries and kicked a. penalty goal. A hi:o kicked a penalty goal for Massey College.
