FEILDING FIRE BOARD.

QUARTERLY REPORT

In his quarterly report to the Feilding Fire Board, the superintendent oi the Fire Brigade (Mr O. Sporle) states: “The brigade has received two calls during the quarter, one to a chimney fire rind one to a fire at the rear of studios in Manchester Street. The value of buildings on which fires have occurred was £1750; value of contents, £4000; insurance on buildings, £1520: insurance on contents, £3300; total value. £5750; total insurance, £4820 The fire loss for the quarter was £2 on the buildings; loss on contents, nil: total loss, £2. The plant and buildings are in good order. The present strength of the brigade is 19 men and two officers. There are three men doing station duty and one relieving. The attendance and work at all musters are very satisfactory. Mr S. Gaskin (nightwatchman) is carrying out his duties as laid down by the board in the usual manner. A very steady water pressure has been maintained, the gauge showing very little movement at any time. “I would suggest the Borough Council be approached with a view to erecting a notice, or in some other way drawing the attention of the public attending functions at the Drill Hall to the danger of parking cars over the fire plugs in Stafford and Bowen Streets, and also of parking cars across these streets., for on some occasions it would be impossible to take the engines through the space that is left clear of cars. On making an inspection on. May 28 after .attending a fire in the early hours of the morning I found that of'the five fire plugs in Stafford and Bowen Streets there was only one plug accessible. In the event of a fire in this block on such an occasion, the brigade would be very seriously hampered, and I feel this matter should be brought under your notice.”
