OTAKI, July 3,
Afr and Airs Albert Smith, of Palmerston North, are among the visitors to Otaki. Rev. P. Tcmuera and Alls P. Tcmuera leave to-day for the South Island on holiday. An early lamb may be seen on Mr O. J. D’Ath’s farm at Otaki.
Returns of vitui statistics for Otaki for the April.i mu: quarter arc:—Births: European 19, Alaori 5; dcatlis, European 4, .Maori 3; marriage licenses issues 9. The total rainfall in Otaki for June was I.27iii. T'hc rainfall for the past six months totalled 19in. During June there were fifteen frosts, the heaviest (8 degrees) being on the 12th. Prizes at the fire brigade’s euchre tournament on Wednesday were won by Miss Royal and A 1 r W. Nikora (firsts) and Airs .Mitchell and Air 11. Beauchamp (seconds). The monthly - meeting of the Otaki School Committee was held on Wednesday, when it was decided to make application to the .Minister of Education for a high school, it being considered this was necessary in a .district that extended from Paraparaiimu to AJanakau. It was agreed to write to the hoard and ask that the football area bo put in a playable condition, pointing out that 400 yards of top-dressing were needed. Wandering cows, it was reported, had done damage to the grounds, and it was decided to instruct the ranger to impound such stock.
