SCOOTER MARATHON.
NEW SOUTH WALES NOVELTY
SYDNEY, July 5. Hundreds of cars and three special trains from Sydney and Newcastle conveyed crowds of people to Gostord today to witness a marathon scooter race of 1\ miles from Terrigal to Gosford, both seaside resorts. The competitors numbered 50 and their ages ranged from 10 to 81 years. They included middle-aged women and girls, also a champion skater. I The event, which created considerable deversion, depicted all types ot scooters, streamlined and primitive, and «as conducted over a paved hut hilly motor road. Youth triumphed, three Gosford boys, Syd. AVood, Syd. Pickett and' Stanley Wiggins, filling the places, covering the distance in about 30 minutes. Only a tew adults finished, some blood-bespattered irom spills. Two married women, Mrs Warren, aged 48, and Mrs Cullen, aged 57, took part in a challenge scooter race which Mrs Warren won.
