Only a few fugitive chiefs have surrendered. Tlie Aoyssinians claim to have killed an Italian captain and 70 soldiers an Garamulata, near Diredawa. Patriots of the westren provinces declare that they will make a nationwide effort in the worst week of t..e rainy season, but the Italians consider that they are l'nlly occupied with banditry and inter-tribal rai-.ng, particularly in Ankober and Termaber, though they admit .. that complete pacification may take some years. Tlie regular aeroplane services have been suspended owing to the rains turning the aerodromes into quagmires, and interfering with visibility, necessitating the use_ _of the Djibouti railway, for wnicli the French demand payment in foreign exchange, refusing lire.
