RISING PRICES.
COMMENT BY PREMIER,
(By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, July 3.
When his attention was drawn to statements concerning the rising prices of commodities, attributed to the Government’s recent legislation, the Prime Minister (lit. Hon. M. J. Savage) said that miormation was coining to him from many quarters on-this question.
“It seems to me,” said Mr Savage, “from the advices already to hand that the sooner someone finds himself before a Magistrate’s Court the better it will be, because then everybody will know where they are. The Government are determined that the benefits we have set out to give the people are received by the people. We are not going to have our efforts destroyed by those who are not prepared to play the game. I believe that most of the manufacturers and business men are anxious to help, and will do the right thing, but the position is made the more difficult by some people who are prepared to sacrifice everybody in order to get some advantage for themselves. That is the reason why the whole question is under consideration at the present time by myself and the Minister of Industries and Commerce.”
