(From Our Own Correspondent.) EICETAHUNA, July 2.

In spite of the unpleasant weather cuiditions the soe al aiternoon organised by the Croquet Club, which was held at tho residence ot Mrs W. O. Mac Kay, Bridge Street, yesterday, was highly successful. A cheery fire added .to tho comfort of the large number attending ii|d vocal solos were rendered by Alt's Driver and Miss Muriel Smith, Alias Brietineyor accompany ng them. Competitions were won by Mcsdames P. l'auvel and Al. Herbert. Afternoon tea was served by the members. Prior to dispersing, Airs Wilson (president) expressed the club’s thanks for the support of their friends in contribut i g towards the activit es of the club and its financial assistance. Prizes for the competitions were donated by Mcsdames lioyes and Reard 11. In the second match of their tour, the Bush women’s representative hockey team beat South Taranaki by 3 goals to 1. The game was played at Piliama on a rather heavy ground. Nevertheless a very friendly sprit prevailed and a splendid exhibition of hockey was given, the teams being evenly matched. Misses A. Dick (2) and E. Cavanagh (1) scored for Bush, wh’lo Betty Watkins registered South Taranaki’s goal, Alessrs A. Riley (Tarana.ki) and A. Lawrence (Bush) controlled the game. Mrs F. Hooper presided over an exceptionally large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute, held to-day. The business portion of the meeting included a discussion on the hold ng of° the institute’s bulb bliow. which was not completed, and the hi’.leting of members of the Blind Institute Band. On their com’ng visit. The entertainment part of the programme was provided by members from the Hukanui branch, who were given a hearty welcome. Included in their number were Mcsdames \\ atkins (president) Twentyman (accompanist) Dakly and Goldor, Al'sses Alartin Har rington, Golder, Lawrence (2) and Sparks. A plavctte entitled “Passing the Alansion House’’ was cleverly produced, by five ol the junior members. Vocal so.os were givon by Airs Watkins, and recitations by Misses Colder and Sparks. An interes. ng demonstration on hairpin crochet was given by Mrs Dakly. At tile conclus on ot the programme Airs Groves proposed a vote of thanks to the Hukanui members. This was seconded by Airs Abrechtsen and carried by acclamation and musical lv ,'ours. Afternoon tea was served the hostesses being. Mcsdames Schonnai 1 1. Albreehtsen, Hooner. Bauoke and Boycs. the monthly competition for the best apron made from Uyds of material and costing not more than 2s 6d drew n no entiles the judges, Mesdamcs Twentyman and Colder (Hukanui). award ng the points to Mrs Bauoke 1 and 2, Mrs Watts 3 Awards in the competitirn for the best flower m "he garden were: Airs Albrechtser. 1, and 3 Alra Sc-hoiniann 2.
