PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION.

THE ANNUAL MEETING

Business and entertainment were happily combined at the Boys’ High School, last evening, when the annual meeting of the Parents’ Association was held. Prior to the gathering an opportunity was given, in half an hour, for parents to meet the teachers and a number of those attending availed themselves of the arrangement to discuss matters of mutual interest. The annual meeting of the association was then proceeded with and following items, including The new school song, were sung by the boys’ choir and a play presented by pupils of the Dramatic Club. The serving of supper brought the evening to a close. For the annual meeting the president (Mr A. A. Langley) was in the chair and he submitted several apologies for unavoidable absence. Proceeding, the chairman eulogised the work of the executive, saying that the ladies particularly had worked excellently. The members altogether had worked most harmoniously and well. The rector (Mr J. Murray) had extended many kindnesses to the association and Messrs A. J. King and J. Iv. Paton had done commendable work as treasurer and secretary respectively. Hie sneaker also congratulated Mr A. C. Zolirab on his promotion to another position at the AATiangarei High School, saying Mr Zolirab liad, for a number of years, assisted the association in many ways. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr A. Grigor, the report and balance-sheet, already published, were adopted, there being no discussion. The chairman advised that Mesdames W S. Carter and N. H. Sinclair and Mr C AA T . Teppett had resigned from the executive, for various reasons, and their resignations had been accepted with regret. Mr T. L. Seator said that Mr Teppett had for several years been a most valuable member of the executive. He moved that a letter of thanks and appreciation lie sent to each of the retiring members. The motion was carried with acclamation.

It was decided that the president be elected at the first meeting of the executive. the memliers of which were appointed as follow: —Mesdames C. Louisson, H. Pierard, H. Palmer. C. A. Small, J. Davidson, E. B. Jennings, F. N. Andrews, R. Waters Mr and Mrs A. A. Langley, Mr and Mrs T. L. Seator, Messrs A. Grigor. G. B. Cope, E. S. Oliver, A. J. King. J. K. Paton and J. Murray (all reelected) and Mr and Mrs J. L. Nash, Mrs C. N. Rabone and Mr H. Pierard (new members). Mr J. K. Paton was re-appointed secretary and Mr A. J. King treasurer. The chairman mentioned that an opening ceremony would lie held in connection with the new pavilion and members of the association would receive invitations to be present.

A vote of thanks to the rector and his staff for the very able manner in which they had carried out their duties was proposed by Mr J. H. Nash and carried with acclamation.

Replying, Mr Murray paid a tribute to his colleagues, saying that he could well do so. knowing how wholeheartedly they devoted their interests to the welfare of the boys. The speaker expressed his thanks to the Parents’ Association, and to the executive in particular, the members of which had been a very great help to the school. Tangible evidence of that was the pavilion, now being built, which had cost over £3OO. It would be very much appreciated. The executive met monthly and had accomplished a great deal under Mr Langley’s chairmanship. Tn conclusion, Mr Murray touched on two reunions of old boys which had been held recently, one at AVellington and the other at Palmerston North. Tt had been a great pleasure to meet old boys who had now grown to manhood and who were playing a part that was bringing credit to their school. Mr Murray thanked the gathering personally and also on lxdialf of bis staff for the expression of appreciation. Speaking as a member of Hie staff at Massey College. Mr R. Waters said that some of the hoys going there from the school had been of outstanding merit. Many were going Home with the aid of scholarships and would make their mark in (lie world. It was right, said Mr Waters, that the teachers nt- the school should receive commendation for the work that had made that possible. Mr Grigor proposed a vote of thanks to the High Schools Board of Governors, which was also carried with aclacamation. Air Grigor said the board gave the association every encouragement and were always prepared to co-operate. Votes of thanks to“ the secretary, the auditor, and the Press closed the meeting. The new school song and other items were then sung and a play which had been staged with the same cast at the British Drama League Festival in Palmerston North was presented. The play, “Brother Wolf.” by Laurence Hoiisman, was admirably acted. The case was as follows: —Lupo, E. Abraham ; Giuseppe. F. Sheppard: Cecco, R. Brabant; Bartnl. K. Chapman; Bastiano, E. Davidson; Francis, B. Philpott; Juniper. G. Davies. The producer was Air Zohrab.
