CORKY SCAB OUTBREAK

MELBOURNE, July 3.

For many years New Zealand potatoes have been excluded from Victoria owing to the alleged existence of corky scab. An outbreak of corky scab has now been discovered in potato crops in the Otway and Beech Forest districts of Victoria. The quantity affected is 500 to 1000 tons. The Minister of Agriculture (Hon. E. J. Hogan), himself a potato-grow-er, has decided to allow the marketing of the affected crop, subject to strict inspection. The districts concerned are the finest potato-growing areas in Victoria
