COUNT WILLONYX WINS STEEPLECHASE. RED RUFUS FLAT EVENT. The annual meeting of the Unmiovirko Hunt Club was held yesterday, witli lain fading at intervals. Count Willonyx won the-Steeplechase from War Eagle, the only two to finisii, and Red Rufus took the honours on the flai. The attendance was good, and the totalisator put through 113302, against £2900 a year ago, an increase of £402. The course was heavy. RACING IN DETAIL. War • Acre 11.0. A length and a half; three lengths. Time, 2.18 3-5. Silent Acre took charge along the back and led into the straight from Comctra and Cordon. Silent, Acre, however, was wide out, and was tiring, and under pressure Comctra, better seasoned, finished on to will by a length and a half. Cordon was a poor third and Battle Pomp fourth. Had he not hung out on the turns Silent Aero would have won. TAKAPAU NOVICE STAKES, of £4O. Five furlongs. 9 KOIIIKA, 8.7 (S. Golden Ridge was backed to a very short price in the Takapau Novice Slake-, but was soundly beaten. Great Hope, who began well, led into the straight from Golden Ridge, with Aube and Ruen/.ori handy, and lxohika coming on the outer. Kohika finished very solidly and won by half a length from Great Hope, who was two lengths clear of Aube. DANNEVIRKE HUNT CUP STEEPLECHASE, of £45. Two miles and a half. 1 COUNT WILLONYX, 9.12 (E. Deslandcs) 1 3 WAR EAGLE, 9.7 2 Also started: Miss l’ango 10.5, Royal Songster 9.5. Tlie only two to finish, the others all fulling. No timo was taken. Four contested tlie Dwnnevirke Hunt Cup Steeplechase, which greatly entertained the public. '1 rouble begun early in tlie race when Miss l’mgo ran off at tlie stand double. A few furlongs later War Eagle ! and Royal Songster fell. Count Willonyx was the only runner left, whereupon Miss Pango resumed, only to find tiiat War Eagle and Royal Songster had been remounted and were in tlie race again. Royal Songster tell again, and Miss Pingo crashed, leaving Count Willonyx to win by tlireo furlongs from War Eagle, but Count I Willonyx slipped and nearly .fell eti the home turn. ORINGI HACK HURDLES, of £SO. One mile and a half. 5 MIDACRE, 9.0 (W. N. ’Taylor) ... 1 3 SIR RONALD. 9.0 2 1 PRINCE RENO. 9.11 3 Also started : 2 Royal Bengal 9.0, 4 Sunder 9.0. Ten lengths; two lengths. Time, 2.53 4-5. Midacre ran away with the Omgi Hack Hurdles. Royal Bengal had charge along the back, with Midacre in second place, | but with three furlongs to go Midacre went |to the front and eventually ran in tin lengths clear of Sir Ronald, who, after [ dropping back to la-st, finished bn again 'and boat Prince Reno for second place. Huntiim Star won well after being prominent all the way. De Trop was we 1 placed throughout the running, but Hunting Star outstayed her and beat her comfortably. Master Hector was a good third, and First Hand, who ran wide on the home turn, was next. KAITOKK FLAT HANDICAP, of £6O. One mile and a quarter. 1 RED RUFUS, 8.2 (S. Anderson) ... 1 5 SILVER BRIAR, 8.6 ‘ 2 SLIPPERY, 9.2 “ Also started: 4 Full 'Throttle 8.11, 5 Souchong 8.0. . Two lengths; three-quarters of a length. Time, 2.14 4-5. ... Souchong led past the stands from Ful Throttle, Slippery. Silver Briar, and Red Rufus. With five furlongs to go Red Rufus moved up, and at the half-mi,e he was m the lead. Red Rufus hung on all the rest of the way and won by two lengths fjom Silver Briar, who beat Slippery by half a length. Souchong was fourth. Red Rufus was well ridden and won solidly. Meanwhile Balbus, who had been many lengths in the rear, was advancing. Balbus came out wide in the straight, and, finishjug far too well for the opposition, won by half a length from Helios. Warehi. The Grasper, and First Hand wore next.
