Sutton, the Phoenix forward, went away in a good solo movement and beat the goalie. Phoenix were soon pressing the delcnce and from a scramble the ball crossed the line for a goal. Sutton was again the leading man in the next Phoenix attack, and as betore his shot found the net. Rallying from this setback, Broadway took play to their opponents’ area and Scales added a further goal. Sutton scored again for Phoenix betore the interval, lus shot comig from a scramble within the circle, and at halftime the total was 4—2 in iavour of Phoenix.

After the resumption Broadway attacked strongly, but were repulsed, and in a counter-attack Phoenix sent tile ball up the wing where V. Turner received it to shoot an excellent goal. In the ensuing play Broadway showed good stickwork 111 the forwards. Eor a considerable period they had the game in their opponents' area and again and again they attacked only to be held off by the strong Phoenix defence. Assuming control, Morgan broke away and beating the backs with good stickwork scored in the corner. Shortly after lv. Drinkwater, a Broadway back, retired from the game with a injured knee and the greater part of the defence work was thrown on Sutton. However, Broadway pressed and D. O’Brien scored after a last exchange. The yellows were now goingvery well, despite the brilliance of the Phoenix forwards, and before the call of time they added another goal, D. Hoare and O’Brien combining nicely for the latter to find the net.—-Phoenix 6, Broadway 4. Messrs A. N. Stubbings, and F. McLuchla cotrolled the fame. SERVICES BEAT WOODVILLE. From the bully-olf the visitors went to the attack, but found the defence sound. For some time Woodville kept pressing and Services’ play was mostly of a defensive nature. The first bright movement came when Anthony, centre forward for Services, staged a good breakaway, but a breach halted it. Services were now showing more dash and better stickwork, and play was in their favour for a time. The first score came when Anthony received the ball and with a hard low shot. sent it into the net. Woodville retaliated by taking pl-ay to their opponents’ goalmouth, where McNeil had a very hard shot, the ball hitting the goalie. After a rest he was able to continue. The Woodville players gave several good exhibitions of stickwork in attacking movements, but the defence of the Services backs was equal to the occasion. Then, 111 a counter-attack, Services sent the ball up the wing where, from a good centre, Smith sent in a nico shot, beating the defence. At hall time the score was 2—o in favour of Services. After the interval play for a time was patchy, both teams securing an even share of the ball. Woodville obtained their first goal when McNeil scored from 1a scramble outside the goalmouth, but almost immediately afterwards McDonald added another for Services to retain their lead. Following this the home team had the advantage and scored again shortly after, Anthony goaliug from a good forward movement. Pressing again, Woodville worked into a. good scoring position and Gascon, who had been playing an excellent game in goal, was called on to save. Woodville, however, were not to be denied and after pressing repeatedly their efforts were rewarded, Beal getting his'stick to the ba.ll and finding tho net. Before the call of time Anthony was again to the fore in a Services attack and liis shot resulted in another point for his side —Services o, Woodville 2. The umpires were Messrs D. Wilton and M.
