LEAGUE OF MOTHERS.

ACTIVITIES REVIEWED

The report of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers foi the year ending July,-1936, states; — “l/i presenting this, our ninth, annual report, wo review with gratification the year’s activities, commencing from August, 1935. Ten monthly meetings have Itecn held, our average attendance being 2o(J, compared with 200 last year. The membership at present stands at 418, an increase of 61 on fast year’s total, which is most gratifying to the executive. The financial members number 345. The programmes have been varied, with addresses, demonstrations, musical items, roll calls and a flqwer show. On April 21 the ninth birthday ot our branch was celebrated with the fathers and husbands the guests of honour. The evening was spent with musical items and t\\o plays and was voted a grout success. The recipe box and magazine tabic, supervised by Alesdaines Graham and Herron, lias met. with its usual success, being a ssouree of continual interest to members. The flower and cooking show held ir. September was again a successful function, members responding enthusiastically. Another success was our “white elephant” stall, held in May. The singing circle, which was in recess for a few months, has resumed practices under the capab.e leadership of Mrs Christensen, with Miss Currin as pianiste. This circle adds to the pleasure of our meetings and members are to be commended for thensupport. It is with dee)) regret that we record the passing of two of our loyal members, Mrs C. Hall and Mis L. Lovelock, Mrs Hall having been one of our first members, live sudden passing, recently, of Mrs Ernest Dawson our Dominion secretary, came as a great shock to us all, especially to those of our league menioers who veie in personal contact with her. Mis Dawson has won for licrselt a name which will never be forgotten in the League of Mothers. Mrs Hancox represented our branch at tlie funeral se - vice at Lower Hutt. During the yeai, we congratulated our president (Mia Hancox) on her appointment lor a teim of two years to the Wellington provincial executive, which meets quarterly. This enables our branch to keep better in touch with league affairs. Brightness has been added to our meetings by the gav tablecloths which were donated to the branch by our committee members. “We take this opportunity of thankin" all who have given their services to° make our meetings so successful. Especially would we mention Mrs H. D. Howlev, Mrs W. Church ill. Mrs E. Dawsett, Mr G. G. Hancox, Air J. ANash and Rev. J. S. Bate. Our special thanks' are due to Air Coddaid foi auditing the books and generally supervising our business affairs, and to the Press for publicity. For their kind consideration and services we also thank Air AV. Devine, Air J. Redwood, and the Repertory Society. AAe look forward with confidence to the coming year’s activities and the continued enthusiasm of our members.”
