PHILATELIC SOCIETY.
The Maiiawatu Philatelic Society held their usual moifthly meeting in the Legion of Frontiersmen’s club room, on Wednesday, Mr A. M. Spillman presiding. The president voiced the usual note of welcome to new members and the visitors present. There were 18 members present. Eight new niembcrs were elected and a further four persons nominated for membership. It is gratifying to the committee that the total membership lias been increased to 90, including those persons just nominated. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs P. Ornberg, W. Schwarz, and L. G. Rieger. A motion was carried that the correspondence be received. Among the letters was a request that arrangements he made for a visit to the newly formed society in Levin by the members of the Maiiawatu Society and this will lie discussed at the July meeting. The next business was the election to membership of the nominations put forward at the May meeting, and the nomination of further new members. A discussion then took place on the exhibit of stamps displayed at the Manawatu A. and P. Association’s Winter Show, the display having been taken to the meeting for that purpose. The society expressed its appreciation of Mr H. D. Million’s donation to the society of several lots of stamps to be disposed of for the benefit of the society’s funds. Mr Million also forwarded a number of other interesting philatelic items for disposal at the meeting, and a good many of these items changed their ownership, very fair prices .being averaged over the exchange.
