(From Our Own Correspondent.) BAINESSE, June 22. Mesdames A. C. Buchanan and V. 0. Kelly were hostesses at a pantry afternoon held at tile residence ot Mrs Buchanan, on Saturday, in honour of Miss Mavis Robertson, who is to be married during the wed;. A jelly time was spent with games and competitions, for each of which a prize was given. The winners were as follow: 0 antes, placing pegs on line, Miss R. Grammer; competitions, a bird romance, Mrs Stirling and Miss Bond (a tic)-; tearing a pig from paper, Mrs Baker; skittles with bottles, Miss Mavis Robertson; memory game, Miss Dot f .l entrant. Mrs Kelly conveyed to Miss Robertson the beff wishes and congratulations of all present and called on her to accept the many useful contributions to her pantry. Miss Robertson suitably replied. The presents were displayed on a tea waggon during tho serving Cif afternoon tea by the hostess. Those present were: Mrs T. Robertson, Misses Mavis and Vera Robertson,. Mesdames Scott, Metcalf, 'J hessman, Stirling, Millard, Dunford, senr., R. Dunford, Baker, Pearce, Andrew, Legg, Kelly, Buchanan, Misses R. Grami.'or, .D. Tennent, ,J. Legg N. Jakobsen, I’. Sargisson, D. Sargisson, L. Bond and Iv. Bond, A handkerchief afternoon was given m Miss Robertson’s honour by l'Ms G. Syverson at her residence, Longburn, last J uesday. In spite of the inclement weather an enjoyable time was spent, the guest of honour receiving many Painty gilts. A mooting of Labour supporters was held recently for the purpose of forming a branch of the Labour Party in Bainesse. About twenty members were enrolled. Those appointed to tho executive were;— President, Mr M. J. Ryan; vice-president, Mr I). Tennant: son-clary, Mr A. 'J hornson ; members, Messrs F. J. Legg and If. Cook. Mr C. L. limiter, M.P., addressed the meeting. Messrs \V. Larkin. Carkeek. and Rang! l’uki, of the Rangiotu Maori branch, were present and congratulated the Bainesse supporters on having formed a branch with sc* large a membership. At tho conclusion of the meeting (lie president thanked Mr Hunter for his address and also the Maori members for their attendance. Ho assured them that they would always work together for the benefit of Maori and pakeha alike. Misses Audrey and Lois Brooke’l aylor have returned from an extended holiday in the north. Mr \V. Tremaine lias returned from a. visit to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs Holbrooke, of Woodvillc, were visitors to Bainesse, last week, being tho guests of Mr and Mrs Buchanan. Messrs rr. Jakobsen and F. Legg arc spending a holiday in the Hamilton district. Mr and Mrs 11. Millard have returned from Gisborne.
