HEALTH CAMPS
A NATIONAL PLAN
(By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, June 23. In order to discuss the establishing ot a general policy in regard to the control of health camps, the Minister of Health (Hon. P. Fraser) has called a conference of those interested in the movement to bo held in Wellington on July 10. In making the announcement, the Minister said that the rapid extension of the scheme had made its consideration from a Dominion viewpoint desirable if the host results wore to be obtained, and tho time had come for a general policy to he determined to ensure that the available resources were utilised to the best advantage. Much experience had been obtained in recent years by health camp organisations in various parts of the Dominion, and a discussion between representatives from the various organisations would be of considerable value in outlining a general scheme for the conduct of these camps which, while safeguarding the interests of the individual organisations. would prevent overlapping and ensure the greatest benefit to the children in relation to expenditure. The conference,* said Mr Eraser, will consider the desirability of organising a health camp movement throughout New Zealand under a national society on a voluntary basis. The extent of State co-operation will he outlined in the matter of expert direction and control, the granting of facilities for holding health camps by utilising public reserves and buildings, and also in tho matter of the financial assistance to he expected by way of subsidy from the sale of health stamps or other -funds.
