AIR DEFENCE

GOVERNMENT ACTING

Per Press Association

CHRISTCHURCH, June 23. Alterations are to be made at the Wigram aerodrome. ’The Defence Department has decided to link up the landing ground with an area of about 35 acres lying on the other side of the road. The Minister of Defence (Hon. I*. Jones) said that the construction of a new administration building on that ground, in addition to new workshops and 6taff quarters, was being considered. The Government were also giving careful consideration to a scheme to send 25 pilots to England for training and experience. There was also the possibility that mechanics would be sent to England under a similar scheme. It was likely that improvements would also be made to the Hobsonville aerodrome, at Auckland.
