Whitehead, S. .Mayhew, ]’. Churchcr, Y. Barrow, J. Frazer, F. Booking, IT. Buchanan, R. Stuart, J. C. Williamson. H. MacFarlane, C. Straw bridge, and J. H. Williamson. Rao Stewart, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Stewart, entered the Palmerston North Hospital on Friday night with a poisoned kneecap and had to undergo a slight operation. She is now progressing favourably.
The largest crowd of people scon locally for many years at the school, on Saturday, to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs C. E. Small bore testimony to the esteem in which they are hold hv the residents of this and surrounding districts. Cards wore played during the early evening, the winners being Mr and Mrs J. Entwistlo who had drawn with Mr R. Stuart and Mrs D. Old, but bv the cut of the cards were declared winners. After supper Mr D. Old (chairman of the School Committee) in making the presentation of an eiderdown and a set of pipes to Mr and Mrs C. E. Small said that no matter what else was scheduled Mr Small had always been on deck with his music box when the School Committee had held dances during the winter months for years past to raise funds for the school. Besides doing this lie had always paid his admission as well. The record crowd spoke for itself. Ho then asked Afr and Mrs Small to come forward and accept the small token of the residents’ appreciation. Mr Old apologised for tho absence of Mr (M. Richardson (secretary of tho School Committee) who lias had to enter hospital Mr Small thanked the people for this appreciation uf what lie had done and said that it had been a pleasure for him to bo able to help the school to raise funds. “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was I lien sung. T he floor was later cleared and dancing was the order of the night. Mr Gordon Fitzpatrick was at the piano, hut Mr Small was called upon to bring out his music box upon two or three occasions Mr l>. Old carried out ilie duties of M.C. Just before midnight the people gathered round Mr and Mrs Small and sang “Auld Lang Syne ’ and so fm’slird what was termed the largest, best, and most representative gathering over held in Beaconsfield.
