PAHIATTTA, June 20. TJie newly formed Mayfair Ring Pong Club held its first practice on Friday night. Miss Freda Buckingham was appointed secretary. At the Mangamutu School euchre party on Friday night there was a large attendance. The first prize was won by Mrs C. Newman, with Mrs Beales second. Mr C. Pearcey won the men’s prize, Mr Balsom being second. The Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting recently, Mrs J. D. C. Crewe presiding in the absence ol Mrs J. D. Wilson. A motion of sympathy was passed with. Mrs J. Hanison 'in the loss of her son, members standing in silence. With Mrs Murch at the piano, an enjoyable community sing was held. Mrs Mackley gained first and second prizes in the competition for the day. The speaker was Mrs H. M. McKay,- of Masterton, who gave a talk on Edinburgh. . The Hamua and Mangatainoka senior Rugby teams played at Pahiatua on Saturday, Hannta emerging the \ ictors by 4 points to 3. Bentley, Hamua s full-back, drop-kicked a goal and Lett kicked a penalty for Mangatainoka • The Pahiatua Amateur Cycling Club’s third, road race around the Lvonini block, a distance of 11 "idea, "as held on Saturday. During the week-end the Pahiatua Volunteer Fire Brigade held its annual competitions for the Oxley and Rimsell Cups. The duties of starter Sere carried out by Mr R. Nesb.t, and Messrs 11. V alsh) has been advised by Ray Nmol that he has accepted an offer to fight Harold Reeve for the light-henyywemht boxing title at Paihatua. Nmol will be allowed £lO expenses and the boxers iwill divide the not profits on a 60-40 basis. Edwards, of Wellington, js spending a holiday with Miss Whittaker, of Huia Street. Pahiatua. Mr and Mrs S. Cutts left yesterday for Wellington after spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs O. Sunnex, of Pahiatna. After spending some weeks in the Pahiatua Hospital. Mr J. Mabev, of Hamua, left last Saturday. Mr Mabey met with his accident while blasting trees.
