KIWITEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). KIAVITEA, Juno 17.

On Monday afternoon the parishioners throughout the Kiwitea district assembled at the hall to farewell Rev. L. A. Barnes and Mrs Barnes and family, who leave soon for Tcniuka. f lhe large number ot people who attended testified to the very liigh esteem in which they arc held. On the stage wore Mr and Mrs Barnes, Archdeacon F. 11. Petrie, of Podding, and members of the central committee, Miami Mrs R. Rieliaidson, Mr and Mrs J. Hare, Mr and Mrs G- Lintott, Mr and Mrs F. C. Ross, Mrs C. Williams, Mrs W. G. Ciapliam, Mrs J. D. Hocking, Mrs At. Richardson, and Miss C. Barrett. Kathleen Williams presented Mrs Barnes, who was dressed in a becoming frock of marina blue relieved with white and a pretty little blue hat, with a boucpict. of pink and mauve clirvsanthcmutiis. Mr F. C. Ross spoke of the' deep regret felt throughout the parish at losing, such an able and popular vicar. He offered hie Congratulations to Mr Barnes ill that, his call to Temuka meant advancement for him. Air R. Richardson, the synodsman, spoke in glowing terms of the splendid work done by Mr Barnes. He presented Mr Barnes with a substantial cheque, with the best wishes of all .the parishioners. The three, children of Mr and Mrs Barnes also received small presents. Mr Barnes expressed his appreciation of the kind tilings which had been said about him. lie wished to acknowledge the help and loyalty to church work shown by his people, which ho was sure would be given to his successor. Archdeacon Petrie expressed his pleasure ot the opportunity afforded him of being present to do honour to a valued colleague with whom-his relations had always been most cordial. Messrs J. Hare and G. Lintott endorsed these remarks, after which afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The rain which fell yesterday and Inst night was very welcome in this district. Household tanks were very low. We have bad exceptionally heavy Rosts and bcaul 1fn 11 v sunny days. The local school teacher, Mr Meads, lias been obliged to enter hospital this week.
