LABOUR ON FARMS.
SCHEME DELAYED
(Bv Telegraph..—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, June IS. Improved conditions for the employment of labour on farms have been completed, blit the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong), who lias had several conferences with representatives of farmers’ organisations on the subject, stated to-day that no announcement would be made till the Government had announced the guaranteed price which it proposes to pay lor dairy produce. Rates of pay for farm labour, .he said, were contingent.on tlio amount the farmer would receive for his dairy produce; consequently, the completion of farm labour plans was held up in the meantime. Discussing the labour market generally, Mr Armstrong expressed the opinion that when the Governments works programme was in full swing lie estimated that there was likely to be a scarcity of labour for certain classes of work. The scheme for the employment of labour on farms, he pointed out would make that class of work much more attractive than it had been in the past. THE BRICE GUARANTEE. Interviewed to-day, the Prime Minister (Air Savage) stated that an announcement would be made soon as to what the guaranteed price would be, but he added that the Government were not desirous of making an announcement till they were obliged, to in view of any possible advantage that might he taken.
