ENGINEER'S INVENTION. —A new method of tunnelling has been evolved b y Mr. B. L. Hamilton, waterworks department field engineer, and has been put into operation on the waitakare pipeline job where it crosses under the Point Chevalier Road at the junction with Great North Road. By its utilisation no timbering is required for a tunnel, which can stand unsupported for a few hours. Above: The concrete arch being wheeled on its bottle-jack truck at the ground level.
