FUTURE OF BELGIUM.

SEPARATION OF FLANDERS. NATIONALISTS’ AIM. LONDON, June 15. Til© Morning Rost’s diplomatic correspondent at Brussels says tile progress of the political elements in Belgium is furthering German’s policy even if it is not consciously pro-Ger-man, and is causing considerable anxiety. It may endanger the position of Belgium as the keystone of Western security.

The Flemish Nationalists, who revealed unexpected strengtii in tlie elections, aim at separating Handers from the rest of Belgium and incorporating it with Holland in a new Netherlands State extending from Dunkirk to 1 nesian island, leaving the French-speaking populations of Belgium south from Brussels free to join France. The more immediate demands are complete financial autonomy for Flanders and the suppression of international engagements affecting Flanders, including the Franco-Bel-gium military understanding. The movements originated in the Great War and were engineered by Germany as a valuable instrument weakening the Allies. The Nazis are reported to have financially assisted it in the recent elections, the Flemish Socialists combining to demand the abandonment of the plans for fortifying the eastern frontier.
