WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Business was exceptionally brisk in the stock and share markets last week, and the volume of trading on the four metropolitan exchanges was again very large, especially in Australian industrial and trading issues. The markets were generally firm and gains were made by several Australian issues, a feature of the week’s trading being the strong advance in Broken Hill Proprietary shares. On tiie Wellington Stock Exchange industrial and trading issues accounted for more than three-quarters of the dealings in company shares. Apart from Government loans, of which nearly £35.000 worth was sold, a total of 20,117 shares were sold, this figure including 15,244 shares in industrial and trading concerns. Bank issues were dull and inclined to ease, a total of 893 shares being dealt in. New Zealand weakened on sales from 45s Oil to 45s and the D mortgage issue to 28s 9d. Insurance issues were a shade firmer, a total of 850 shares being traded. Business in financial and pastoral issues accounted for 3130 shares. Broken Hill Proprietary were actively traded and advanced from 68s to 73s 3d, later business being done at from 71s to 72s 6d. The new issue", 10s paid, moved up on sales from 45s 3d to 50s 6d. Australian Iron and Steel preference sold at 25s to 25s Gd, and Australian Glass firmed from 92s to 945. Hume Pipe (Australia) were a firmer market and sales were made at from 19s o.d to 20s 9d. The Wool worth issues were slightly less active, but the market was firm, the New Zealand ordinaries selling to £9 5s and Sydneys to £5 los. Mount Morgan recovered from 14s 2d to 15s Gd.
