All-round excellence was displayed in tho latest series of county cricket matches, batsmen and bowlers sharing the honours fairly evenly. As a result there was not an abundance of centuries, although effective howling did not altogether restrict the batsmen.

The honour of making top score fell to Duckfiekl, Glamorgan’s clever young batsman, who was unbeaten at 280 against Surrey, for whom Sandham, Hobbs’s trusty comrade, made 104. Frank Watson, Lancashire's consistent. bat, compiled 115 against Hampshire, for whom Boy'es made 101, not out.

R. E. S. Wyatt displayed something of his accustomed form in making 107 for Warwick. Details are as follow:

Yorkshire v. Middlesex.—Yorkshire : First innings, 242 (Sims 6 for 98); second innings, 165 (Allen 4 for 46). Middlesex: First innings, 162; second innings. 6 for 77. Yorkshire won on the first innings. Glamorgan v. Surrey.—Glamorgan : First innings, 6 for 550, declared (Duckfiefd. not out, 280, Brierley 94): second innings, 4 for 166. ■ First innings, 402 (Squires 71, Fishlock 81. Sandham 104). Glamorgan won on the first innings. Gloucester v. Derbv. —Gloucester : First innings; 95 (Mitchell 7 for 26) second innings 194 (A. Pope 4 for 29).
