FROM TRACK AND STABLE.

(By “Spectator.’ - ) A movement id on foot in Otaki to form a trotting- club, says (be “StandardV’ correspondent. King Musk, who had to bo cased in his work through sustaining a ricked off hind leg, shows no sign of the injury now. He is doing serviceable tasks at To Aroha and it should not bo long before lit: i.s ready to race. Mr L. L. Saggers, engineer to the Wellington Jiacing Club, has left, for Sydney to inspect the club’s new Julius all-electric totalisator, which is now nearly completed. and will soon be ready for shipment to New Zealand. Mazir has been bowling along freely on the tracks at Te Aroha over the past couple of weeks and appears to have derived benefit from his short respite. 1 Souchong was an interesting acceptor for the hurdle race at Hastings to-day. Ho has much more pace than the average jumper, and accordingly to reports has shaped satisfactorily in schooling work. Royal Limoml is a doubtful starter at Wingatui as lie injured a knee and a shoulder when ho fell in the Great Northern Steeplechase. It depends on what progress is made during the next few days. Fortunately Royal Limond is well forward in condition and a brief respite from work may not damage his racing condition. The performance of Namakia in winning tho open sprint at Ellcrslic with 10.3 in 1.12 1-5, which is only 3-ssec outside the track record, was a brilliant one. Despite tho fact that she drew an unfavourable postposition she was soon in the lead and staying on in tho gamest possible fashion prevailed in a stirring finish with Greek Gold and Sweet Rose. Up till five years ago the track record for Ellcrslic was 1.12 1-5 held by Arisuc, since when it has been bettered on several occasions. It is estimated that the Aga Khan’s studs and horses in training are worth I about <t1.000.000. His income is set down at. about £600,000 a year, and his invost- • ments run into millions. When ho was | single tho Aga Khan used £BO a day in j pocket money, but he does not gamble. H. Rama, who has made lticcarton his headquarters for the past two years, has decided to return to Auckland, mainly for health reasons. Free Air, who has been under the care of K Shaw at New Brighton for some weeks past, is to bo raced at Wingatui before she goes to Ellcrslic. Horowhenua, Horoliu and Tooley Street were left at Efictvilie. Bonny Azure has gone on satisfactorily of late in her preparation for engagements at the Auckland trotting meeting, and the chestnut mare is looking a real picture. She is one of the best four-year-olds to race in the Auckland province for some years, and it, is rcallfy hard to assess just how good she is, states an Auckland writer. She was taken south to the Hawera meeting at Easter, and won her three races in very impressive fashion. On tho second day she gave a good field 48yds start, and after being fully 50 yards behind the leaders with half a mile to go came away in the straight ( and won as she liked by three lengths: Tho . last, four furlongs were run in 1.3, and seeing that Bonny Azure was giving the leaders a big start her time for‘this section must have been round about a minute or better. The cffo'rtr- eliminated any doubts 1 as to her staying ability. t

Rose Val may do well for T. R. George this winter. The former West Coast marc ran two fair races at Otaki.

A newcomer to Ellcrslic, a rising two-year-old fjily by Bronze Eagle from Lady Robinson, "is under the care of K. Heaton,, jit nr, She is a racy-looking youngster and is bred to go fast.

| Pcferwab, one of the fastest trotters ever s raced in New Zealand, was purchased by t Mr R. J. Munro, of New South Wales, 3 and was recently sold to Mr F. Occolowitz, a very keen trotting enthusiast in Victoria. Another transfer from New South Wales to Victoria is Roy Redmond, who was im- ' ported from America as a foal. He has riot ' been raced. Mr It. C. Simpson, of Arrnidale, New South Wales, the owner, has 3 leased him to Mr Erie Cochran, of Ballarat. f The Manawatu Racing Club has isuod (. the programme for its winter meeting to . be held on July 25. Tho declaration of weights has ben postponed until after the , Hawke’s Bay Hunt meeting on July 18 , in order to avoid rohandicaps. There are, ’ only two jumping events on the eight-race ’ programme—the Hunt Cup for qualified hunters and tho Flaxbourno Hurdles. There is also a Ladies’ Bracelet on the flat for qualified hunters. There are two open races, 1 two events for hacks and one for maidens. J. Campbell, who has been associated with Mrs J. Campbell in (ruining a team of horses at Riccarton, is taking out a , trainer’s license. In his riding days Campbell was one of tho best in the saddle. He won tho Auckland Cup on Fiery Cross, the Stewards’ Handicap on Arrowsmith, the Jockey Club Handicap on Fiery Cross, the New Zealand Derby on Duo, the C’an- , torbury Cup on Snub, the Dunedin Cup and Hazlett Gold Cup on Amythas, Invercargill Cup on Honesty, North Otago Cup on Radial and Royal Mac, Timaru Cup on First Glance, and New Zealand St. Logcr on Amythas, and also steered winners of other important, races. Dark Shadow was the best performed hack scon out at the Great Northern meeting. In tho first division of the Jorvois Handicap he was always in tho picture and finished right up behind the placed horses. His next start was in tho Ranfurly Handicap, and he won going away. On that showing he was installed favourite for the first division of the Filzroy Handicap last Saturday, and after waiting on the leaders for about half tho distance ran to the front and nothing had a chance with him once heads wore turned- for home. Dark Shadow iu by Acre or Leighton from Madam Lobelia. who is descended from tho same family as Wiltshire and El Gallo. , Dark Shadow hag become very solid with racing. -
