The Alberta branch of the Canadian Manufacturers’ Association has notified Mr Aberhart that “the prosperity bonds he proposes to issue as a medium of exchange will not be accepted by business.” The bonds, which are really scrip on which each recipient affixes stamps, are termed an intolerable turnover tax.
