MID-WEEK SERIES. UNITED v. KOWHAI. Playing under unpleasant conditions at the Showgrounds yesterday, United drew with Kowhai in the mid-week Rugby competition after a dour strug-' gle on a slippery ground. The teams were: Kowhai (yellow).—Legge, Dowers, Petty, Dunne, Staples (2), Campbell, Darragh, Harford, Brewer, Fowles, Bell, Wells, Laurenson, Grindrod. United (white). —Podjurski, Alsop, Oldham, Page, Holden, Edmonds, Sherman (2), Jamieson, Beaumont, Gilbert, Collins, Davison. Kowhai kicked ofF against the wind, and the whites, aided by the strong wind, carried play to the yellow line. Play remained there for a short time, until the ball was shot out to Skerman, who dived over. The kick failed. The yellows attacked continuously from the kick-off and penned the whites in their twenty-five. However, the United forwards cleared well. Campbell evened the scores when he picked up a dropped pass and scored under the posts. Dunne failed with an easy kick. In the seco'nd half, Skerman kicked a penalty goal to put the whites in the lead. However, Wells crossed for Kowhai towards the end of the match and the score 6—all was unaltered at the final whistle. Mi - A. Jewett refereed.

Pirates attacked from the outset, but good tacklino prevented them from crossing.
