FROZEN BEEF IN SHORT SUPPLY. LAMB MARKET IMPROVES. The lamb market is steady, with better prices for heavyweights. Mutton market: Wethers weaker, especially for lightweights. Ewes also weaker, hut demand improving at the lower prices. Beef market: Still nominal owing to short spot stocks. New Zealand porker pigs: Slightly firmer. New Zealand baconer pigs: Slightly easier owing to lower Continental bacon prices. The above report was received on Saturday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market, and/or ex London stores. The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week: —The market is weaker for lightweight wethers ; heavy remain steady. The reduction in prices has improved the demand for ewes. The market for lambs is steady, and _ no material change is expected yet. The market is well supplied with chilled beef.
