The appointment of Hon. Walter Nash as Minister of Marketing is officially gazetted. A Gazette notice announces the appointment of Mr G. Black as a member of the New Zealand Wool Committee in place of Mr W. S. Bennett, who has resigned. Sir James Parr, High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, who will retire from his position at the end of the year, expects to return to New Zealand early next year. At the Farmers’ Union conference in Feilding yesterday, Mr Lloyd Hammond, of Bata, was re-appointed' tlio delegate to represent Group 6—Wanganui, Manawatu, Wellington Central and Southern Hawke’s Bay—at the Dominion executive meetings.
The death has occurred at Briglitwater, Nelson, of Mr Robert Forbes, secretary of the Waimea Co-operative Dairy Company. He saw service in the Seaforth Highlanders in the Great War, and spent five years in nest Africa before coming to New Zealand. Advice of the sudden death on Wednesday in Melbourne of Mr G. I. B. .Sheridan, resident inspector in charge of the Victorian division of the Bank of New South Wales, has been received m Wellington. The late Mr Sheridan was assistant. inspector of the Bank of New South Wales in New Zealand from 1921 until Juno, 1927, when he was promoted to the management of the Adelaide and the Soutfi Australian division. Mr Sheridan took over his last position last year. He is survived by his widow. Mr and Mrs Sheridan had a large circle of friends in Wellington. Mr Arthur Hickford, aged 66, whoso death has occurred at Hamilton, came to New Zealand with his parents from England on the Star of India in 1874. He resided in the llongotea district lor many years, and served on many school committees in Wanganui, being also at one time a member of the Wanganui Education Board. He was a keen supporter of the Labour Party, and was associated with Hon. E. Langstone in his early political career. His name was mentioned recently in connection with appointments to the Legislation Council. Mr Hickford spent the latter part of his life at Hamilton, where he was widely-known and respected. He is survived by his wife, five daughters and three sons.
