HORTICULTURE

EXAMINING BOARD. A meeting of the examing board of the Institute of Horticulture -was held recently with Professor H. B. Kirk in the chair. The Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kow, advised that gardens, nurseries, etc., approved by the examining board would be regarded as satisfactory training institu-

tions for applicants for admission to Kew as student gardeners. Appreciation was expressed of the excellent syllabus in horticulture prepared by the Canterbury district council for the Christchurch Technical College and also of the fact that classes had been commenced at Wellington Technical College. Several applications for examinations in November were approved and grants of certificates to florists’ and seedsmen. An amended scheme of examinations in fruit culture was referred to a committee with power of submission to the executive council.
