(From Our Onw Correspondent.) ROXGOTEA, May 26. The school rc-opened yesterday with Mr W. A. Churchill as headmaster md Misses Richards and Thompson assistants. The roll stands at 100, with an attendance at the opening of 93: two pupils were absent owing to having chick n-pox. At the School Conimitee meeting last evening there were present Messrs W. Amies (chairman), E. A. Croad (secretary), Rev. \V. J. Berry, Messrs ft. Saxton, 11. N. Rowe and W. A. Churchill (headmaster). Before commencing (he ronli.o business, the cha'rman extended a very warm welcome to Mr Churchill, and hoped his stay in Rongotea would prove very pleasant. Correspondence was received from the Wanganui Educati-n Board notifying that the school would bo raised to grade C 3, which made necessary a change of headmasters. Mr Allen being transferred t 1 Mr Churchill appointed. The Rongotea Tn-nis Club wrote offering the use of their courts for pup Ts. It was required that a teacher he in charge, and play restricted to stated days, for the sum of £l. Tile offer was accepted. It was decided to write to the Town Board requesting that a light be installed at the school entrance, also that a load of metal lie placed in the gateway at the football ground. Arising from a rccomm I’datinn at the recent householders’ mect'ng, it was proposed by Mr Rowe, and seconded by Air S'ixton, that Bible reading in this school he proceeded with, subject to the Education Board’s approval. This was carried. Mr Berry was appointed to conduct tho Bible lesson on one moi-ing each week in conjunction with local min'sters of other deinoniina- I tions. Parents will lie notified anil asked . whether they approve of their children receiving Biblical instruction. The lady teachers were authorised to procure material for uniforms for basketball players, tho colour being while, with green facings, the uniforms to remain the school’s property. Offers of ears to convey scholars to inter-school compotiti i-s were made by Messrs A. IJi.l, W. Amies, and If. Rowe. More are needed.

The secretary was requested to nrorwo utensils for the purpose of providing hot cocoa to children at the lunch hour dining Ihe cold weather. Accounts for £lO 17s Id were passed for payment. The usual monthly meeting of the Iton-potc-a and Taikorea Methodist Women's Guild, held today, took tile form of a “pantry party” in honour of Miss Mavis Smith, whoso marriage takes place shortly. After the opening devotional exercises the secretary (Miss Smith) read the minutes. A social hour followed, when Mrs A. Sanson, and Rev. R. E. Fordycc eentributed songs; Miss Smith a musical item; Mbs E. Smith and Mr Fordycc readings: and Miss .7. Smith a recitation. Also, there were intitesling competitions. The president (Mrs R. E. Fordycc) on behalf of those present took the opportunity of wishing Miss Smith the best of happiness for the future, and called on her to accept a large array of gifts. Mr Fordycc also spoke of the valued work their guest had done as secretary of the guild, and as a worker in the Church and Sunday school. Miss Smith said that while she would treasure the gifts she valued still more the spirit of goodwill that prompted the givers. Afternoon tea was served, after which the gathering closed with the Benediction. Members of Women's Institutes are enthusiastic people, and when they undertake to do anything it is sure to succeed. This was evidenced last evening, at the Coronation Hall. Rongotra, when an entertainment on behalf of the local institute met with well deserved support. Two diverting dramas were presented, along with other items that mot with hearty applause. The only gentleman performer to take part was Mr T. Murphy, of Sanson, who contributed plantation dances in cost nine, which met with much approval from the younger members of the audience. Miss Anderson acted rs necompnnicte and Mr A. Tv. Drew made the announcements. Following the cone-i t the floor was cleared, supper was expeditiously' handed round and the evening was concluded with a short dance.
