OBITUARY
MR RICHARD COCK. Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Alay 28. The death has occurred of All- Richard Cock, aged 85, an early settler, xvell-knoxvn local body member, and former businessman. Air Cock was born in Taranaki and xvas the founder of the bacon industry in the province. He xvas twice Alayor of New Plymouth, and a former chairman of the Harbour and Hospital Boards. He xvas once the proprietor ot the Croxvn Dairy Company, then the largest in the Dominion, and xvas the founder and director of a sash and door and timber company. He was a founder of the Chamber of Commerce and had been president of trustees of tlie New Plymouth Savings Bank since 1921 and chairman of the Building Society for 20 years. Ho xvas a well-known Freemason. Mr Cock was a former member ot the Taranaki Rifles and took part in the Parihaka campaign. Throughout his life he took a keen interest in all activities affecting the progress of the town. He is survived by a son, Air L. Cock, of Auckland, and a daughter, Airs C. Williams, of Nexv Plymouth.
