VIOLENT STORM
IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA. HAVOC IN PERTH. BUILDINGS DAMAGED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received May 22, 10.35 a.m. PERTH, May 22. A violent storm swept the southern part of the State yesterday. Many buildings in Perth were damaged and scores of river craft were wrenched from their moorings and piled up alongside the foreshore. The wind reached a velocity of 56 miles an hour, and rain fell in torrents. Broken electric light and power cables held up tram traffic. Panic reigned in a two-storey building at Guildford, which was almost demolished by a “willy-willy.” . The roof was carried off and blown into the street 150 feet from the building, the loin walls of which collapsed.
