FRIENDLY SOCIETIES

OROUA LODCE OF DRUIDS. At the half-yearly meeting of the Oroua Lodge of Druids, heid in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Cuba Street, A.D. Bro. R. Chatfiekl presided over a large attendance, including visitors from Makino, Dargaville and Acorn Lodges. An invitation was received and accepted from Onward Tent to a dance. An invitation was also received from Acorn Lodge for their next meeting, to play for the euchre shield. About 20 members intend visiting the lodge. Mnnawatu Lodge, Foxton, have invited the sitting officers of Oroua Lodge to take the lodge chairs a.t an initiation, and seven car-loads of members have already been arranged for. Two young men and one young woman were initiated and two more proposed for membership. P.G.P. Bio. Jackson reported on games of bowls against Makino Lodge and Onward Tent, the lodge scoring a win over both teams. P.A. Pro. Gilmore reported on attending a meeting of the Dispensary Board. P.A. Bro. Buchanan reported on a meeting of the R.A.C. The A.D. reported on an official visit paid to Acorn Lodge. The nomination and election of officers took place and after keen competition for office tlie following members were elected: A.D.. Bro. J. L. Mudford : V.A.. Bro. X. Humphries; secretary, P..S. Bro. Mewett (re-elected); treasurer, P.A. Bro. Gilmore (re-elected); J.P.A., Bro. R. Chatfiekl; 1.G.. Sis. Ferris; 0.C., Bro. McCulloch ; A.D.B.’s. Sis. Jackson, ium\. and Sis. Buchanan, spur. ; V.A.B.’s, Bro. and Sis. W. Mudford ; pianist. Sis. IV. Buchanan; M.Sec., P.A. Bro. Lowndes; M. 0., P.A. Bro. Ure: coach, P.A; Bro. Lowndes; stewards, the brothers. P.A. Bro. Hanson, of Acorn, and Bro. Dunn, of Dargaville, acted as scrutineers and wore accorded a vote of thanks. After tlie closing of the lodge,- supper was served and cards and bowls were soon being indulged in.
