MINE TRAGEDY
FOUR MEN ENTOMBED. BRISBANE, May 17. Four men were killed when they were entombed by an explosion in the Aberdare colliery No. 2 mine at Dinmore, near Ipswich, on Saturday night. The victims were Christopher Yeoman, aged 55; Edward Turner, aged 45; Robert Binnie, aged 52; and Albert Percy, aged 50. The men were alone in the shaft, where they were endeavouring to cut off from the main workings an old lire in one of the drives. Immediately the explosion was heard rescurers descended, but they were unable to reach the four miners because of a heavy fall of earth. BODIES RECOVERED. Received Mav 18, 10.40 a.m. BRISBANE, May 18. The bodies of the four meu, badly burned and mutilated, have been recovered. It is believed the miners were having a meal when the explosion knocked them unconscious and that the flames then swept over them. The rescuers lost no time in bringing the bodies to the surface, because the flames were rapidly approaching them.
