Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. May 14. Described oy the (xilice as a drug addict, Hazel Mary Carswell, aged 35, sat and trembled in the dock at the Police Court this morning, when she war; charged with stealing clothing and cutlery valued at £9 from a private home .vhere she had been employed as a nurse for an elderly male patient, and, further, with procuring dangerous drugs wihtout authority. She pleaded guilty to all the charges. Mr Aekins said accused had acquired the drug' habit years ago and bad been unable to leave off. She now was in very bad health. Replying to Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., counsel said that she had been an inmate of Pakatoa Island for two years, coming a.way in February last.

The Magistrate said it was a‘wrong practice for chemists to accept orders for drugs over the telephone. T'lic police said accused had been very frank, and the, stolen articles had been recovered from second-hand shops. On the theft charge accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Counsel’s request for sentence on the summary charges was postponed. The Magistrate said accused would receive proper treatment in prison.
