BOWLING GREENS.

WINTER SEASON OVERHAUL. Though normally, bowling greens are topdressed when they are closed for the off-season, two 01 the playing areas in this city are at present receiving the most thorough overhaul since they were established, and entirely new surfaces have been sown. Under the direction of Mr AY. M. Horton, supervisor and advisory officer for the Greenkeeping Research Committee of the New Zealand Golf Council, the Palmerston North Club’s green has had a cultivator put through it to a depth of three inches. This is the first time this has "been done for 25 years, and new grass has been put down. There are indications of a very good take, and it the weather continues mild good growth should develop. After a top-dressing in the spring the green should be in firstclass order tor the new season. The Terrace End Club’s green has been dug up, replanted, and rolled, working bees carrying out this work, which is nearing completion. Levelling and sowing work is proceeding on the area of the original tennis courts, it being llie intention to provide a five rink green there.
