(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKI, May 13. Mr W. Irwin, who bas been spend lig a holiday at Bainesse, returned to h : s home on Wednesday. Mrs V. Claridge and her two daughters are at present paying a visit to Tawa Flat, where they are the guests of Mrs Claridgc’s sister. Miss lCatlilcill Squire, of New Plymouth, who has been the guest of her aunt, Mrs Carson, returned to her borne this week. Mr and Mrs Allen and Miss Allen, of Palmerston North, are the guests of Mr and Mrs Jmson, Tane Road. Mrs and Miss Whiteman, of Eketahuna, are the guests of Mrs J. llansen. Makerua Road. Miss M. Carson, of Palmerston North, spent last week-uid with her parents. Mr C. 11. Marriott returned home on Tuesday after spending a short holiday at_ Foxton. Mr 11. Wilson, of Tane Road, is at present visiting Waiata- Mr and Mrs Ivan Croad :i:d family are spending the school holidays at Paraparumu Beach. The monthly meeting of the executive committee of the local branch of the Farmers’ Un’on was held last night, Mr B. A. Norman presiding over a full attendance. It was resolved that the executive meet monthly ri id that general branch meetings be held at least quarterly. The following suggestions for lectures came forward and the secretary was instructed to make the necessary arrangements for lecturers: —Mineral feed'ng of live stock, pig recording (lantern slides), farming legislation, cream and milk taints, a balanced ratoon (or the dairy cow. the laying out and designing of a farm home. The question of installing a hot-point in the hall was discussed., it being left with the secretary to co-operate with the Ilall Committee in the matter. Mr Aitcheson reported on the meeting held in Palmerstr 11 .North last Saturday in regard to setting up a veterinary service within the district surround ng Palmerston North. It was considered that the scheme suggested at that meeting would not gain the support necessary to ma nta in a veterinary surgeon. Members generally agreed that some form of service was highly desirable, and that such might possibly he taken up and administered by the Farmers’ Union as a privilege of membership. Mr Wilde was appointed to represent the brrnch at the interprovincial conference to be held at Feilding, at the end of the month. In the event of his not being able to attend Mr Norman was elected ns deputy.
