ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, April 24. The Table Tennis Club has already entered upon its activities for the coining season, Alonday evening last being the first practice n:ght for members. Judg ng by the present attendance, the club seems to be assured of a very successful season. Several visitors from Aorangi were present and at the conclusion of the play supper was served by lady members of tlio club. Owing to the adults’ fancy dress Did masquerade ball being such a splendid success last year a. Hall Committee meeting was hold this week to make arrangements for another function to be held some time next month. The proceeds will aga n be in aid of the hall funds. The Ashhurst Hall Committee commenced their fortnightly scries of eurchre, pingpong and dance evenings on Wednesday, when there was an excelhiit attendance which augurs well tor the coming season. Several visitors were present from Palmerston North and helped to swell the_erowd. Prizes at cards were won by Ai.ss M. Youlo, while the ladies’ consolation prize went to Mrs M. Murphy. In the nun’s section, Mr McGlusky carried off the first prize, tiie consolation prize going to Mr G. Roniley, whilst the ping-pong was won by Miss L. Hughes and Mr G. Sykes, of Palmerston North, .after supper, the floor was cleared for danciig, which continued until a late hour, music being supplied by Mrs Hewitt and an extra played by Airs 0. Kerrigan, Mr H. Maul carried out the duties of M.C. On account of the croquet lawn being inder water after the heavy rain, it was found necessary to postpone tlio gala day whch was to‘have been held last Wednesday afternoon until- a later date.
