CONTROL OF INDUSTRY.
RATIONALISATION PLAN
(By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, April 23. The Industrial Efficiency Bill shortly to be introduced by Hon. D. G. Sullivan (Minister of Industries and Commerce) will give wide power to rationalise industries. The central feature is the Bureau of industry, a purely advisory body linking the State Departments. When industrial development has to be pursued with, the object of giving further employment, industries will be asked to prepare an efficiency plan by means of an industrial Group Committee representative of the Government, employers, and workers, if the plan is approved by the Minister and is backed by a substantial part of the industry it will be enforced. . An important provision is that the Minister may require that no person may carry on an existing industry or commence a new one without a ficense, and this, says Mr Sullivan, is an essential part of any legislation that seeks to secure the greatest measure of efficiency and co-ordination in industry. The Minister will see that the public are protected in the rationalisation process from anything in the nature of a monopoly.
