ROYAL LANDLORD.
ESTEEM FOR THE KING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 22. “His Majesty King Edward VIII is the best landlord in England. The popularity, esteem, and .love in which he is held by all his tenants and subjects are so widely known that there is little I can add,” said Major Hilgrove McCormick, M.C.j Secretary and Keeper of the Records of the Duchy of Cornwall Estate, who, accompanied by his wife, arrived by the Wanganella to-day. Ho will be a fortnight in New Zealand before returning to Sydney and later going to London. , , , Major McCormick said that, now as King and formerly as Prince of Wales, His Majesty was the landlord of many properties, including a block of workers’ flats and homes in Kcnnington and Lambeth. Under the rehousing schemes supervised by His Majesty much of Konuington had been rebuilt and modern flats provided for the workers at minimum rentals, which varied according to the wages or salaries earned by the occupants. The King had a definite knowledge of the requirements of housing schemes. Five camps wore organised every year for unemployed men and their families in the counties embraced in the estate.
