OBITUARY.

mr j. a. s. McKenzie. Per Press Association. TAURANGA, April 22. The death has occurred of Mr James Alexander Sutherland McKenzie, aged 80, after 70 years’ residence in New Zealand. He was well-known in many parts of the Dominion. Mr McKenzie left Nova Scotia in the ship Breadalbane in-1858 with a party of settlers. From Waipu he joined the Post and Telegraph Department and erected many of the main telephone lines in the Dominion. He retired after 42 years’ service. Mr McKenzie was presented with the Imperial Service Medal in recognition of his long and meritorious service in the New Zealand Postal Department. He was closely associated with acclimatisation* affairs and was also a member of the school committee and a life member of the Tauranga Bowling Club. One of his sons is Mr J. H. McKenzie, the general secretary of the Post and Telegraph Association, Wellington.
