DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.

IN PRINTING PREMISES. Per Press Association. , DUNEDIN, April 21. The top floor of the printing premises of the firm of C. B. Smith, Ltd., in Stratioid Stieet, was gutted by fire at 5.30 this morning, damage estimated at £12,000 being done to the plant and stock. The upper part of the three-storey building was an inferno when the brigade arrived, the men having a difficult and dangerous job to get to the seat of the outbreak, but four machines had the blaze controlled within half an hour. The large room principally affected covers 3000 square feet and contained valuable printing plant, with la.ige stocks of paper and other inflammable material. A few of the. machines can be salvaged. The store room on the floor below was principally damaged by water. The cause of tne fire is a mystery. The building was owned by the firm. Insurances aie £II,OOO on the stock and plant and £6OOO on the building.
