(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, April 21. Nominations for the Foxton School Committee closed last evening and resulted in the following being received: —Messrs J. R. Middleton, L. Fletcher, H. H. Podmore, I. W. Mudford*, W. R. McKenzie*, A. W. Baines, W. T. Young, E. Titcoinbe, W. M. Thomas*, M. E. Pcrrcau*, S. E. Cowley*, C. F. Smith*, J. KJ Hornblow*. An asterisk denotes present members. Nine onlv are required. It is many years since there has been so much interest evinced in the election. Messrs R. Rangihouea and F. Robinson did not seek re-clcction. The, monthly, meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, and was

presided over by the Mayor (Mr INI. E. l’orrcau). A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr F. C. Ilaikcs. The resignation of Cr Wm. Nyc was received and Mr E. Titcombe took his declaration to fill the vacancy in view of his election unopposed. He was extended a welcome. The ' Kairanga County Council forwarded a cheque for £35 5s Id, being the council’s share of the heavy traffic fees collected during the quarter ending March 31. The Safety First Committee, Palmerston North, wrote asking the council to take due regard of the health of applicants for renewal of drivers’ licenses in view of the fact that many applicants who had no trouble in obtaining a license in the first place were to-day in indifferent health.— Agreed to. The committee also asked that the council take the necessary steps to have rigidly enforced the regulation preventing the riding of bicycles' after dark without lights.—Agreed to. The Horowhenua Rugby Union wrote asking the council if it would be prepared to accept 10 per cent., of the gross gate takings for the use of Easton Park for football purposes during the 1936 season now that Foxton players had decided against local football.—Decided to demand £lO per annum for the ground. The waterworks foreman (Mr W. D. Neville) reported that during March 1.240,000 gallons of water were pumped. The ranger reported that during the month nine head of stock had been impounded. Accounts amounting to £1502 3s 6d were passed, for payment and it was decided to write off £lO3 6s 6d in respect to t.hc gas works as irrecoverable. The Palmerston North Free Ambulance wrote asking for a donation. -Declined. The road foreman reported that Hillary, Coley, Hulke, Easton and Robinson Streets and Moutoa Road had been graded during the month. The town clerk • reported that the amount of gas manufactured during March was 289,800 cubic feet. The treasurer reported that during March £1374 6s lOd was received. The council considered the restoration of “cuts” in employees’ salaries and wages, and decided to make the restoration in every direction. _ The monthly meeting of the Foxton hrnnrh of the New Zealand DX Club was hold at the residence of Mr Cv Cull, Whirokino Road. The chairman (Mr Cull) presided Members reported much improved reception from overseas and some very good stations bad been logged. Mr Cull lo"-"-cd and received bacK a verification from ZJV Suva. This station, which was

logged after it had been on the air for only two days, is difficult to get. The results of the competitions were as follow: Shield for best Australian or New Zealand station, S. Free and G. Cull Ist equal, with 17 ' points; Overseas, S. Free, Ist, with WBZA, 11s points; G. Cull, 2nd, with KDYL, 9£- points;
