NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.

MANAWATU BRANCH. In the absence of Miss C. AlcKenny, Miss Simpson presided over the monthly meeting of the Manawatu branch of the National Council of Women, which was held yesterday in the Y.W.C.A. clubrooms. Also present were Mesdames Hibberd (Utiku). W. Howell (Rauinai), J. A. Harris

(Marton), 0. Niederer. J. F. Clausen, J. Boniface, Briden-Jones (Palmerston North), K. Ross, S. McDowall (Feilding), Misses M. S. Grant and P. Hindle (lion, secretary). On the motion of Mesdames Harris and Clausen it was resolved to forward a recommendation to the incoming committee to reconsider the question of sending copies of the minutes to individual representatives. The secretary' of All Saints’ branch of the •Mothers’ Union wrote notifying the appointment of Mrs Briden-Jones as their representative for a further term. Reports were presented by organisations regarding sanitation regulation in shops and offices and the accommodation for women in the Palmerston North police station. In response to an appeal from Miss Jean Stevenson, national general secretary of the Y.W.C.A., for Miss Mary Dingman to visit New Zealand as an ambassador of peace, a letter received from Miss Dingman was read to the meeting suggesting ways (to make such a visit possible. The monthly letter was received and Mrs Clausen read a cutting in relation to septic abortion, .*discussion being held over until a futifre date.
