PERSONAL.

Mr A. J. Pliillipps (managing-sec-retary of the Palmerston North Hospital Board) has resumed Ins duties after recovering from an operation for appendicitis.

Rev. J. C. Dennis, formerly of Hamilton East, has arrived in Levin to undertake the position vacated by Rev. W. G. Slade as minister in charge of the Levin Methodist Church circuit.

To-morrow Mr R. M. Watson, S.M., of Feilding, will leave from Wellington for Samoa where he has been appointed temporarily to the office ol Chief Judge, it is understood that Mr Watson will be away for a.bout three months.

The Pohangina County Council, at its monthly meeting on Saturday, decided to nominate Mr H. W. Smart, of Awaliou, as the country’s assessor for the next three years’ period to deal with objections to valuations. Mr Smart was formerly the chairman of the council and was assessor for the previous period. Air R. 1. Macdonald, who was a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Palmerston North since March of last year, has been transferred to Masterton. The departing officer was tendered a presentation from the staff prior to his departure, the manager, Mr F. G. Major, extending the best of good wishes to Mr Macdonald in his new position. Mr John Harrop Wild, accountant to Messrs Wright, * Stephenson and Coy., Ltd., Wellington, died after a brief illness at Lower Hutt on Wednesday last, at the age of 35. Educated at the High School, Air Wild joined the staff of Alessrs W. G. Turnbull and Coy., Ltd., in 1915. He went to Blenheim as accountant to Alessrs Wright, Stephenson and Coy., Ltd., in 1921, returning to Wellington in 1923. He was a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants and the Australian Institute of Secretaries, and from 1923 he had been instructor in accountancy at the Petone and Lower Hutt Technical Colleges.
