MANAWATU HUNT.

SEASON OPENED AT KIWITEA. -"T the homestead of Mr T. R. Taylor, of Kiwitea, on Saturday, the Manawatu Hunt opened its season. The day was beautifully fine and there was a large number of followers. A crowd of spectators assembled to witness the sport. Mr S. G. Perry (master) was in charge of the field. Messrs O. Perry and W. E. Taylor acted as Lon. whips. Huntsman J. J. Waller 'Had out a fine pack of hounds —about a dozen couples, looking in fine condition. Hares were cjuite numerous, but owing to the very dry state of the ground hounds found it difficult to keep the scent. The throw-off took place at 12.30. The following were among those out:—Messrs 8. G. Perry (master), on Jolly Javk; J. J. Waller (huntsman), The Ranger; O. Perry, Rakawa; W. 'E. Taylor, The Dauphin (lion, whip); Mrs ML E. Taylor, Ranger; Mrs A. W. McDonald, Hinstone; Misses R. Perry, Waitumaha; H. Perry, Caro; lv. Bowman, Night WaWhman ; M. Webb, Dawn; G. Hall, Tiger Bill; Higgie, San Gay; Ml Nathan, Nyan; Messrs L. li. Collinson, Petrarch; H. S. Jones, Nga where; C. Burrell, Red Star; W. Beatson, Peter Pan; T. R. Taylor, Echo; J. L. Webster, Sturdy; E. Cousins, Blaze; P. Ray, Cometra; R. L. Brown, Tangled; H. Beard Roior; H. Leaver, llual; G. V Shannon, Shanks; Perry Taylor, Black Rabbit; Eric Batchelor, Trifle; Gordon Craine, Iti; Peter Batchelor, Tmker; A W. McDonald, Bill; and others. A gratifying feature of the opening run was the number of hurdle horses out for the purpose of _ qualifying. Among them were Petrarcn, who gave Mr L H. Collinson a very comiortahle ride; Tiger Bill, ridden by Miss Gladys Hall; Night Runner, ridden by Miss K. Bowman, and making Ins first appearance with the hunt; Waitunalia, ridden by Miss Ruth Perry; Cometra, La Rinka, and the fullbrother to Manawatu, who is showing great promise at the game; The Ranger, looking fit and forward; Ayun Ivara (Miss Higgie), and Caro.
