CHEESE STEADY. BUTTER MARKET QUIET. The London butter market was quieter last week, with little change in prices. Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week totalled 1598 tons, compared with 3223 tons for the previous week and 2168 tons a year ago. New Zealand butter in store totals 2597 tons, including 545 tons ex the Tairoa and Wairangi compared with 3740 tons for the previous week and 4815 tons a year ago. The cheese market continues steady. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 4188 crates against 18,459 crates a year ago, while the quantity in store is 82,443 crates compared with 106.302 crates a year ago. Canadian deliveries amounted to 3348 boxes, against 3527 boxes a year ago, while the quantity in store is 81,106 boxes compared with 76,598 boxes a year ago. The Dairy Board’s London office reports last week’s closing quotations as follow, those for the previous week being shown in parentheses : BUTTER. New Zealand, salted (equals approximately 10.30 d f.0.b.), 88s to 89s (87s to 88s; April 10, 1935. 77s to 78s); unsalted, 89s to 90s (86s to 87s); April 10, 1935, 78s to 80s). Australian, salted, 88s to 89s (86s to-87s; unsalted, 88s (86s to 87s). Danish, 80s, f.0.b., 108 s spot (86s to 110 s). Dutch, unsalted, 86s to 88s (80s to 88s). ' Polish, salted, 85s to 86s (84s to 80s); unsalted, 86s. CHEESE. New * Zealand white and coloured (equals approximately 5.84 d f.o.b’.), 53s 6d (52s 6d to 535; April 19, 1935, 44s 6d to 46s 6d). Australian, white and coloured, 50s to 52s (50s to 525). Canadian, white, 61s to 625; coloured, 645. English, finest farmers, 74s to 78s; factory cheese, 49s to 50s (49s to 525). INCREASED SHIPMENTS OF BUTTER. Shipments of butter from New Zealand during the eight months of the current season ended. March 31, totalled 99,539 tons, compared with 95,540 tons for the corresponding period of last season, an increase of 3999 tons. Details of the shipments as shown in the latest returns issued by the Dairy Board compare as follow: — 8 months.

Shipments of butter during March totalled 13,831 tons, compared . with 11,757 tons for March, 1935, an increase of 2074 tons. Almost all the cheese exported during the eight months was for the United Kingdom, and amounted to 56,580 tons, against. 64,715 tons for the corresponding months of last season, the decrease this year being 8135 tons. Shipments during the month of March last amounted to 8654 tons, a reduction* of 145 tons on March, 1935. • Stocks of all butter in the United Kingdom at April 1 were 17,308 tons and shocks in New Zealand and afloat were *44,746 tons. The returns as at April 1, 1935, were a total of 35.940. Stocks of cheese in London, Liverpool and Bristol at April 1 were 12,284 tons, of which 3663 tons were Can- ; ndian. Total stocks at April 1 last year were 17,690 tons.
